WHAT ARE IVC FILTERS?

The largest vein in your body is the inferior vena cava. It carries blood from your lower extremities up to your heart and lungs. This makes it an important battleground in the fight against blood clots, which crop up frequently when a victim is recovering from a serious injury.

Blood clots that start in your legs are carried to your lungs by the inferior vana cava, where they cause dangerous, oft-fatal pulmonary embolisms.

IVC filters are designed to prevent this from happening. They are metal devices implanted in the vein, where they catch and disperse blood clots before they have a chance to reach the heart and lungs. This makes them invaluable medical devices.

Unfortunately, retrievable IVC filters, which can be removed at a later date, have a shocking failure rate. Pieces fall of and get into the blood stream. The filters “migrate.” Patients suffer tremendous pain, and their very lives are put in danger.

That’s why lawsuits are pending against several IVC filter manufacturers, including Bard and Johnson & Johnson. Our defective drug and medical device lawyers are accepting IVC filter cases and want to talk to you about your circumstances.

If you’ve been hurt by a defective IVC filter and need an experienced attorney to fight for justice and compensation, please call Chance, Forlines, Carter & King, PC today at 404-760-7400 for a free consultation. We are located in Atlanta, Georgia.
